International Development Trends of Healthcare Industry

The information construction of healthcare includes digitalization, networking, and informatization of healthcare services. By the means of computer science, modern network communication and database technologies, it can provide functions to collect patient and management information, store, process, extract the information and make data exchanges so as to satisfy the functional requirements of all authorized users.

In the past several years, the healthcare informatization of United States has made considerable progress. Cooperated with the medical center of United States, Google have established electronic health records for millions of patients in the community. Doctors can remotely monitor patients’ health conditions. Microsoft has also built a new healthcare service platform to help doctors, patients and their families to learn about the latest status of the patient. Intel has also introduced a digital medical platform a few years ago to help doctors and patients establish interaction through IT tools. IBM Corp. also has a great deal of effort in this regard.

Domestic Development Status of Healthcare Industry

In accordance with the international healthcare informatization levels, there are three levels in building healthcare systems: Hospital Information System, Clinical Information System and Public Health Informatization. At present the healthcare informatization of most domestic hospitals is in the phase of constructing Health Information System, which is system focused on pricing and charging, and financial management.

The twelfth Five-Year Plan of China Ministry of Health has stated clear that healthcare informatization is an important task of deepening healthcare reform. The Ministry of Health has preliminarily determined China’s healthcare informatization roadmap, which is to build national, provincial and municipal level health information platform, strengthen 5 business applications, which are public health, medical service, new rural cooperative medical system, the basic drug system, integrated management, construct 2 basic databases which are health records and electronic medical records, and 1 dedicated network.

Analysis has pointed out that under the impulsion of this new round of policy China is expected to invest about 24 billion into healthcare IT development in 2013. The compound annual growth rate will be maintained at about 20% from 2010 to 2013.
